CARA 2010 Annual Picnic

10:00 am to 3:00 pm ++

Join us for: Food * BBQ * Raffle prizes * HF radio operation

Loads of FUN!

This picnic is our annual event and is FREE to members. Guests and visitors are welcome. We will have some radios set up for operating and you are welcome to bring your own, too.

The park has a lake, lots of grass and trees, picnic tables, and rest rooms.  Feel free to bring your lawn chairs and shade canopies, too.

No cost to CARA Members. - Visitors & Guests: $5.00 (Visitors & Guests welcome)

CARA will provide Burgers, Hot Dogs, Soft Drinks, Plates, Utensils and Napkins.

Please bring one of these suggested side dishes to share: dessert or cookies, salad or fruit item, chips or a side dish (potato salad, etc.)

Directions: Talk-in will be on the Catalina 2m repeater 147.090 + (no PL)

1. Take 57 Freeway to Brea. Exit Imperial Highway East (left if you are driving south on the 57, right, if you are driving north)

2. Drive east to Placentia Ave., turn right

3. Drive about a mile south on Placentia Ave. to Rolling Hills Dr./Golden Ave. turn right.

4. Proceed straight into Tri-City Park. We will be on the grass to the left as you enter the parking lot. Look for the CARA banner!

Alternate directions:

1. Take 57 Freeway to Brea. Exit Imperial Highway East (left if you are driving south on the 57, right, if you are driving north)

2. Drive east to Kraemer Blvd, turn right

3. Drive about a mile south on Kraemer Blvd to Golden Ave.

4. Turn right into Tri-City Park, then right again at the stop sign in the park. Proceed all the way to the end of the road and park in the lot. We will be a short distance beyond the parking lot near the back entrance to the park. Look for the CARA banner!

PLEASE NOTE the change of location  WITHIN Tri-City Park.  We will be just inside the WEST ENTRANCE to the park.  This is a shady location further from the lake and closer to restrooms.  The parking lot is smaller at that entrance but it is just a short walk from the parking lot we would be using if we stayed where we were (2 handicap spaces in the lot).  Attached is a flyer and I have included a link to driving directions below to get to either entrance.  (If you use the satellite view you can see Golden Avenue where it enters the WEST side of the park.  Although the map shows the road going through the park, it does not continue beyond the parking area on the west entrance.)
 
STAY AS LONG AS YOU LIKE.  We usually start cooking around 11:30 or Noon.  We are using gas grills so a "late lunch" is also possible, you just run the risk we will run out of food.
 
THE PARK IS 10 MILES FROM HRO-ANAHEIM  so you can also visit the "candy-store" before or after the picnic.
 
There will be a VHF+ contest going on that weekend and John, KE6GFF will be bringing his 2m and 432 all-mode equipment and set up a multi-op station.  You can participate the contest and experience some VHF FM and SSB contesting.

The buyers and sellers on the swap-net are individually responsible for any transactions made and the exchange of items or funds. CARA takes no interest in and assumes no responsibility for any of these transactions

MONDAY EVENING AVALON NET

Monday evenings at 6:45pm.  When in Avalon, check in with the Catalina Hams on the Avalon repeater. 448.400 - PL 110.9

INFORMAL NET

Tuesdays 7pm on the 220 repeater Get together and chat about the topic of the week

YOUNG PEOPLES NET

Wednesdays at 7pm on the 2 meter repeater. An hour of fun for those amateurs 20 years of age and younger (or 3rd party with a licensed control operator)

TRIVIA NET

Thursdays 7pm on the 2 meter repeater A fast-paced hour for trivia buffs.  This net has been temporarily suspended as we search for net controls.

900mHz Ragchew

Informal ragchew and equipment test Friday Night at 7pm local time.  This is a good time to be listening for activity on the repeater.
